Note To Remember

Note – Don’t attempt to inflate a motorhome tyre that is partly flat & needs blowing up with a standard car tyre pump. They do not have the power & it is likely that you will deflate the tyre even more, potentially leaving you stranded & unable to continue driving.

Most tyre pumps
connect to the valve on the tyre with a quick release mechanism having a rubber insert which, when squeezed by a lever, swells and seals against the thread on the valve. These are usually OK for car tyres, but not for the pressure required for motorhome tyres.

They can leak causing a loss of applied pressures & can make a slightly flat tyre deflate even further.

With the RING Automotive Air Compressor RAC900 the hose is attached by screwing the brass Schrader valve attachment onto the valve until it seals against a sealing ring. A valve attachment has a push and turn mechanism to allow the tyre to be deflated when the pressure is too high while the compressor is still attached to the wheel valve, with an instruction label attached to the pipe.

The gauge, with its brass push-together & quick-release coupling for joining to the yellow hose (shown below), is mounted at one end of a short black pipe while a Schrader valve connector is mounted at the other.

This pump’s compressor is driven by a powerful 12 volt electric motor. It can draw up to 23 amps from the battery. This is too much current for a cigar lighter socket, commonly fused at only 15 amps. So, don’t connect the wires to a cigar lighter plug.

To use it with a car the bonnet must be open and the battery cover removed to expose the battery terminals.

An in-line 30 amp fuse is fitted to the cable and it connects to the car battery with two substantial spring clips coloured BLACK and RED thus:

The BLACK clip attaches to the NEGATIVE(-ve) battery terminal (the one connected to the car body on most modern cars),
The RED clip attaches to the POSITIVE(+ve)battery terminal.

How To Use

Place the unit on a dry surface. Attach the air filter to the front of the unit and tighten by hand. Connect the air supply hose to the unit using the quick connect fitting.

Connect the Red power clip to a positive 12 volt battery terminal Connect the black power clip to a negative ground point.

Check to ensure the valve stem is clean and with no dirt.

Connect the air hose by screwing the brass inflator onto the tire valve stem. Only tighten the inflator with your fingers. Do not use any tools because you may damage the inflator or the valve stem.

Turn the compressor switch to “on” and let air flow into the tire.

Watch the gauge closely, and stop the motor when the manufacturer’s recommended pressure is reached.

Remove the inflator from the valve stem. Remember to replace the valve cover on this stem.

Disconnect the power cord. Remove air filter.

Allow the compressor to cool and place neatly in the carry bag.

Keep the unit in the dry space.
